About Us

The ASEAN Community for Transdisciplinary Education and Research (ACTER) is a multi-institutional initiative instigated to promote transdisciplinary approaches in various areas of higher education, research, and problem-solving. The starting point is the experience gained in food, water, and energy security under THE-GLOW (Transdisciplinary Higher Education for Global Wellbeing), an European Union, Erasmus+ co-funded project.

ACTER is a platform that promotes mutual learning between transdisciplinary higher education teachers, researchers, students, and practitioners across disciplinary, sectoral and national boundaries, building pathways towards transformation, thus contributing to the development of a professional community.

Upcoming Topics

A major purpose of the Community (ACTER) is to enable the sharing of practical ideas, tools and experiences to increase the ability of teams to successfully develop and implement transdisciplinary education in ways that benefit students and the community. To this end the discussion forums will host four moderated discussion topics per year with an emphasis on sharing and collating ideas, tools and experiences related to specific practical issues. These discussions will lead to the production of a shared library of case stories, resources and responses to frequently asked questions. Topics for discussion may include (for example):

w

Sharing examples of job descriptions or job stories requiring skills in transdisciplinary teamwork

w

Sharing examples of teaching collaborations between academia and other sectors

w

Sharing strategies to get students from diverse disciplines to engage in and value collaborative activity with students from other disciplines

w

Sharing case examples that would make good foci for problem-based transdisciplinary courses

w

Provide examples of assessment activities to assess transdisciplinary skill development

w

Sharing models that facilitate transdisciplinary activity to address climate related issues.
